Aug 22
1 min read

Current Status & Next Schedule

  • Next Scheduled Proceeding: Monday morning, August 24, 2026

  • Schedule Context: Federal court is recessed for the weekend. Following the initial phase of jury selection on Thursday and Friday, proceedings will resume Monday in downtown Los Angeles with opening statements expected.

Summary of Case Developments to Date

  • Trial Commencement: Official proceedings began on Thursday, August 20, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California under U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald.

  • Pretrial Ruling on Lyrics: Judge Fitzgerald granted a key prosecution request, ruling that music videos and lyrics—specifically from the track "Pissed Me Off"—are admissible as evidence. Prosecutors intend to introduce this via a cooperating witness present during filming.

  • Severance of Charges: Defense counsel successfully filed motions to sever late-added racketeering/VICAR (Violent Crimes in Aid of Racketeering) charges from this trial. The court is proceeding strictly on the core murder-for-hire and weapons counts to prevent trial delays.

  • Core Allegations: Prosecutors allege Banks organized and financed a bounty plot targeting rival rapper Tyquian Bowman (Quando Rondo). The plot culminated in an August 2022 Los Angeles gas station shooting that resulted in the death of Bowman's cousin, Saviay'a "Lul Pab" Robinson.

  • Plea & Custody: Durk Banks maintains a plea of not guilty to all charges. He remains in federal custody after prior bond proposals were denied.
